Hello! My name is Tara Shingleton, and I am a licensed speech-language pathologist in Greenville, South Carolina. I have over five years of experience working with individuals with a variety of speech, language, feeding, and swallowing disorders. I have specialty training in DIRFloortime®, the SOS Approach to Feeding, and SOFFI®, and I have experience working with medically complex children with a focus on interdisciplinary care. Currently, I specialize in working with children who have pediatric feeding disorders and/or developmental language delays.
PEDIATRIC FEEDING DISORDER
I specialize in working with children with feeding and swallowing disorders. I have specific experience working with medically complex children and interdisciplinary teams to provide the highest quality of care. I believe in comprehensive and collaborative care, and aiming to address the root causes to make long-lasting changes.
DEVELOPMENTAL LANGUAGE DELAYS
I specialize in working with infants and toddlers with developmental language delays. Specifically, I work with children who are autistic, non-speaking, require AAC devices, and/or have communication-based behavioral challenges. I use an integrative approach to equip families to understand all forms of communication, build upon their child’s strengths, and support their overall development.
GESTALT LANGUAGE PROCESSING
I have specific experience working with children who are gestalt language processors. Gestalt language processing is a way of developing language through the use of scripts or “chunks” of language, rather than learning one word at a time. This style of language development requires a different approach than traditional speech and language therapy. I strive to support children and their families as they navigate this journey by meeting each child where they are—whether they are using echolalia, scripting, or moving toward self-generated speech. My therapy approach focuses on validating all forms of communication while guiding families through the stages of gestalt language development in an affirming, respectful, and individualized way.
DIRFLOORTIME®
I am a Proficient DIRFloortime® Provider with a deep commitment to supporting children and families using this approach. DIRFloortime® emphasizes fostering overall development and honoring individual differences through a relationship-based approach. By implementing DIRFloortime®, I strive to help children grow into their most authentic and capable selves.
NEURODIVERSITY-AFFIRMING
I am committed to providing services through a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming lens. To me, this means recognizing that all brains are beautiful and that developmental differences contribute to making unique and wonderful individuals. I believe in meeting children where they are and helping them grow into their authentic selves.
INSURANCE
I am in-network with South Carolina Medicaid Fee-For-Service and Babynet. I am NOT in-network with South Carolina Medicaid Managed Care Plans (e.g., Molina, Select Health, etc) or any Private Insurance Providers (e.g., BCBS, Aetna, etc). I can provide you with a “super bill” upon request to help with insurance reimbursement or FSA/HSA use.
I strive to provide care that considers every child's individual differences and needs. Each child and family is unique, and services should be tailored and individualized to meet those needs. Through an integrative approach to therapy, I aim to make meaningful connections with each child and family I work with to help them flourish.
